I found myself sitting in the lobby of a Disney resort the other day, on a short staycation close to home. Around me were families, couples, and travelers from all over the world. Different languages filled the air. Different stories were unfolding in real time. People arriving, people leaving, people pausing for a moment in between.
And for a brief moment, we were all sharing the same space.
It made me stop and think.
We move through life so focused on our own circles. Our routines. Our responsibilities. Our people. And that is natural. Those smaller circles are where life feels most real. They are where we show up, where we are known, where we are supported.
But those circles are not separate from everything else.
They exist within something much bigger. A global community that connects all of us whether we think about it or not.
And with that connection comes responsibility.
Not the kind that feels forced. The kind that simply comes from being human.
Because at some point, every one of us will need someone. Maybe it will be us. Maybe it will be someone we love. There will come a moment when we cannot do it alone. A moment when we need someone to step in, to notice, to care.
And in that moment, we hope someone shows up.
We hope someone reaches out.
We hope someone takes the time.
We hope someone chooses to care.
But that kind of world does not just appear when we need it.
It is built over time by people who decide to live differently right now.
Living in community means recognizing that we are connected not just by where we live, but by how we live. It means understanding that the small things matter. A kind word. A moment of patience. A willingness to help. These are not small at all. They are the threads that hold everything together.
We learn from each other in these spaces.
We grow because of each other.
We support one another in ways we may never fully see.
Maybe that is the point.
Living in community is not about having all the answers. It is not about building something perfect. It is about participation. It is about presence. It is about choosing to be someone who contributes to a world where people are not left to navigate life alone.
Because one day, that world will matter deeply to us.
So the question is not whether we are part of a community.
We already are.
The question is what we are doing with that responsibility.
Who are you showing up for today?
