Come Thou Fount: Starting the Day with Gratitude

Soft morning light fills a quiet bedroom as a person stands by a window in reflection, with a cup of coffee on a bedside table in the foreground.

Most mornings, before the day fully begins, a familiar hymn finds its way into my thoughts. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. It shows up quietly as I get out of bed and move through the routine of getting ready. It feels like a steady hand on my shoulder reminding me where to begin.

Not with the noise.
Not with the headlines.
Not with everything that feels out of my control.

But with gratitude.

It is easy to get pulled into discouragement. The world does not exactly ease you into the day gently. There is always something. Decisions being made far above us. Stories that weigh heavy. Moments that make you stop and wonder where things are headed.

But that hymn has a way of cutting through all of it.

It reminds me that, despite everything, there is still so much to be thankful for. Family. Friends. Health. The simple fact that I get another day. Another chance to show up. Another opportunity to connect with someone, to encourage someone, to make even the smallest difference in the circle of people around me.

That is the part we forget sometimes.

We may not control the bigger picture, but we absolutely have influence in the space we have been given. The conversations we have. The way we show up for others. The tone we bring into a room. The decision to be present instead of distracted. The choice to be kind when it would be easier not to be.

That is real impact.

And it starts, at least for me, with a quiet moment in the morning and a simple reminder. There is more blessing here than I sometimes notice.

The hymn does not change the world outside my door. The coffee still spills. The news still comes. Life still shows up exactly as it is.

But it changes how I step into it.

Grateful. Grounded. A little more aware that today is not just something to get through, but something to use.

Maybe that is the invitation for all of us.

Find your starting place.
Find the thing that centers you before the noise gets loud.
And begin the day there.

Because there is more good in your life than you think.
And more opportunity to make a difference than you realize.
